Trent Pasano :This laptop is OK. I have used both cheap and expensive laptops over the years, and this one I would list closer to the cheap end. The specs are nice on paper but the quality and performance is not as good as its made out to be. This laptop is not worth more than $600; I bought it from "Amazon.com" for $609. Save your money and get something a little better (trust me you won't regret it). $700+ is just too high to pay for this laptop, I would ONLY buy it from "Amazon.com" (listed as the seller) and not from another seller on Amazon, because "Amazon.com" has a much better return policy and customer service. Besides, Toshiba website list "Amazon.com" as its only authorize seller. The other sellers on Amazon are just over pricing this laptop, don't waste your money unless you get it for a really good price.

 W. Lee:I just received my laptop yesterday and was not able to use the Touch Screen feature for more than a few minutes. According to the systems settng "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HID Compliant drivers per User Guide Troubleshooting to no avail. This Laptop will head back to Amazon for a refund.

I recall that this laptop came up in my selection criteria and filters when shopping.
I even verified the touch feature before adding it to my cart.
Albeit it was several weeks later when I actually executed the transaction.
Amazon was nice enough to grant me a full refund so I'm backing shopping again.ư

KDG (Louisiana):Bought this computer for son who was starting college. We received it on a Thursday. Took a while to navigate Windows 8 but with the help of the FAQs, got everything set up. Saturday morning he opened it up to do his homework and it wouldn't power on. Nothing, Nada, dead in the water. He had logged out and shut it down properly the night before. Left it plugged in to charge. The charge light would not go off after it was unplugged. It wouldn't power up. Had to return it for a refund because we couldn't wait for a replacement since school had already started and he had to have one. Leaves a bad taste for Toshiba.

Joshua Shrader :I purchased this laptop on the 16th of October. Delivery was prompt. Purchase was fulfilled and shipped by Amazon, so that often helps. All necessary components were in the box, no missing pieces. Both the shipping box and laptop box were pristine so that encouraged me that the product wouldn't be damaged. Opened the box, removed packaging and plugged it in. Setup was really simple. Apps and updates took a half hour the first time turning it on, but since then no issues. Bought as replacement for my wife's older Toshiba Satellite. The lack of issues we had from that led me to purchase this one. Other than standard complaints surrounding Windows 8 usage, we've both been satisfied with the speed, weight and aesthetics of this unit. We'll likely be using this for household use mostly, streaming media and running a Etsy shop my wife started. I'm not sure I'd try to play high end games on it, and I may eventually replace the hard drive with a SSD, this is a great computer for recreational users. I would expect that more serious gamers and tech heavy professionals will need to spend a bit more money. I'll update this if I have any extraordinary issues.

Robin Clark :LThis I purchased as a "New' computor, imagine my surprise when I took it out of the box, plugged it in and it already had someone elses name and password in it. I had already been through one bad experience, so I'm giving this one more chance with a different computor. They are very good about returns, but I hate to have to return something agian, I want a computor that is what it says, and works out of the boc, we will see,,,,,

-Since the mousepad has a textured-feel to it, it's jumpy until you start to get used to it. Easily fixed with a USB mouse.
-The placement of the external inputs is a little weird. It seems like they put everything on the sides in an effort to keep the computer a little slimmer. This is most noticeable with the power cord, which is on the left side. All of my sockets are on the right side, so it is constantly turning the computer. The USB, headphone/mic jacks, internet hardline, and external monitor inputs are all on the right side, front too, so they very easily get in the way when you have any of them hooked up.
-The CD tray feels very flimsy and strange. When you open it, it is slow to spring open, then feels very weak and is kind of hard to grip because of the curved outside.
-Software. Namely Windows 8 and Norton Security. I understand that it isn't part of the computer, but the OS is a little hard to get used to and runs a TON of background applications (including Norton) that slow down your computer A LOT at first.
-The speakers are horrible. I normally don't care about sound at all, but it is bad enough that I notice. Not as bad with movies as with music.

Josh -:I just purchased this computer for my girlfriend, and so far she loves it. I personally don't really like Windows 8 yet, especially when using the touchpad, but that is Microsoft's problem. The computer is fast, durable, and has a good sized screen. Perfect for her, as she mainly uses it for e-mail, movies, homework, and Pinterest. One thing to note is that the touchpad has quite a texture to it. Its a little awkward and doesn't have perfect touch response, and I foresee the pits collecting grime after a while. Overall, a great computer for the price!

Jay Mittener :Screen- Has a really nice size and very nice resolution- It's clear and only has distortion at odd screen angles.
Sound- It lacks a bit and stays on the low side making it difficult to watch movies
Keyboard- It's amply spaced but a bit bouncy, almost like it's not installed correctly, but it is, it's just a loose fit.
USB- 3, and comfortable
Touchpad- is textured, it takes a bit of getting used to but after a little you don't notice it.
appearance- it's just a laptop, there are no pretty lights or smooth finishes, no fancy colors or bells.
Weight- Easy enough to carry around, but it's still a 5 pound laptop.

-The full keyboard and number pad, to include keys for screen brightness, play, rewind/forward, sound, and wifi.
-So far has run everything I've thrown at it, inluding Chrome with 15 tabs, and some games with medium-level graphics
-Boot-up is very quick
-Initial set-up is very easy and it goes from the original box to being used in about 7 minutes
-The textured feel to the laptop makes it seem much more durable.
-There's a built-in webcam. It has pretty bad quality, but a really large scope, so you can fit a lot of stuff into view.
-Windows 8, while not my favorite OS, has a lot of built in software that can be useful (think apps on your laptop) once you start to get used to it. Then again, they take up a lot of memory and could be downloaded from the internet just as easily.

J3holaday "John" (Muncie, IN):I bought this laptop on sale. I couldn't find a better performance value than this unit at the time. My friend custom built the same laptop on Toshiba's site and ended up paying about $200 more for the same specs with Windows 7. I figured I'd give Windows 8 a shot for $200 less.

- Performance
This laptop plays back 1080p video without any issues. I've played a few games of Civ 5 on medium settings without any hiccups. I'm impressed with the Intel 4000 graphics. Office and web browsing are smooth and easily handled.

 sam:For some reason, this one kept going to sleep after a minute or two of no use. I obviously checked the power settings and that was not the problem. I don't think it's a common problem as I have a 17.3" Toshiba and have had zero problems. (Hopefully I won't jinx myself) I did return this one and utilized Amazons superb return process. I would say just be aware of what happened to me and go from there. Hope this helps your decision process.

Erik S :Well, I suppose I'll be the first to review this product. I bought this about 3 weeks ago, without any customer reviews which I generally don't do but with a price drop to $570 I took the plunge after a bit of research. I need a laptop as I am going back school and wanted something newer and with better battery life than my 3.5 year old Dell Inspiron 14. ( A Dell 9 cell replacement battery is nearly $150, and needs a new power brick and cable, another 79 to 89.)

PROCESSING POWER
For those who are unfamiliar the L series it is Toshiba's mid-range Satellite line and a good compromise between power, cost, battery life etc. While the L series doesn't have aluminum casing of the S or P series it has many of the same components, just lacks the options (like a dedicated GPU, or i7). I purchased the i3 1.9ghz, 3rd gen. Mostly because I already have a 1st gen i3 2.3 ghz in my Dell and found the power and speed adequate, while giving minimal power consumption. While multitasking mult programs you get some bottlenecking, but it's tolerable. If you plan on doing media intensive applications like games, video editing etc. This is not the laptop for you, the i3 1.9ghz with Mobile Intel HD is not well suited for any type of heavy graphic processing. But if that is what you are looking for you probably know that already. It will handle HD streaming, DVD's, HD vid playback fine but don't expect too much. As far RAM goes, the 240 pin DIMM DRR3 is pretty much industry standard, and is generally the best ram chip set for now, (DRR 4 is due next year) and 6GB is generally adequate but more never hurts, so feel free order another module to add.

Multifox :
CPU - RAM - Performance: Prior to this laptop I was using a Intel i5 2.4gHz laptop with 8GB of RAM and this Toshiba easily equals the performance of the "better" CPU and higher RAM availability. Multitasking is not a problem so far for this laptop. I've run Photoshop, Painter SAI and Corel graphics programs simultaneously with no issues, this while streaming Netflix in the background (I need my background noise when doing graphical work) The laptop boots in under ten seconds and comes back instantly from sleep, unlike the previous laptop. A lot of that I believe has to do with Windows 8 which I wll touch on later. I have not encountered any bottlenecks so far performance wise on this unit, and I generally put a good deal of strain on my laptops. I can't answer any questions about gaming on this system, but I wouldn't suspect anyone to be looking in the sub $500 range for a gaming laptop.

Itzia:Going into college I was looking for a good laptop but nothing fancy for my college budget. It's a great size, and I am starting to really like windows 8. The only thing is that the camera quality pretty much sucks, my iphone takes better pictures, but I don't really care because I don't spend time taking selfies or filming videos of myself for youtube or anything. Other than that, it's been perfect so far and was exactly what I was looking for.

it's a very low noise coming from the processor i guess, while it's working (the noise is like a little mouse scratching on the wall)

fred agbemaple :This is a very fast and powerful laptop. It has a lot of great specs. I would have given it five stars but it does have some things i don't like. The keyboard seems to get a lot of smudges. I don't like how you have to press the function key in order to use the F-keys. Also the trackpad can be very annoying. The mouse buttons are very narrow and can be hard to press down and sometimes you can open the start menu by accident when swiping right to left. Otherwise, it is a very nice laptop that runs cool and has a good battery life.

Bearman :Good laptop for the price. I7-4gb for $680 was great.
Speakers are not bad, and build is really solid.
It's not heavy for a laptop this size either.
Professional and stylish looks. Quite sleek too.
Number-pad is a nice to have.
